Preservice Mathematics Teachers’ Ability to Perform the Mathematizing Process: The Cylinder Packing Problem

The present study aims to examine the preservice middle school mathematics teachers’ ability perform process of mathematizing and identify their competencies within this context. For purpose, was conducted with 43 teachers attending a state university. research method used is descriptive research. As data collection tool, real-life problem called "cylinder packing problem" presented teachers, view finding optimal lowest-cost scheme for hazelnut grower. solutions by were subjected content analysis as well analysis. examined see level effectiveness in use notations that are indicators mathematizing, achieving mathematical results problem-solving. findings indicate generally lacked sufficient comprehension contexts could not requirements important skills such using notations, models generalization which making abstract inferences process. In light these findings, further studies contribute sophistication levels recommended order improve mathematizing.
